1. Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m Katy and I thought hot yoga was a nasty, sweaty, steamy room and I would literally die if I ever tried it. WELLLLLL, that isn’t the case at all. I am so thankful I gave it a try because it has truly changed my life forever. YOU HAVE TO TRY IT TOO. SERIOUSLY> seriously! Also, I like coffee, laughing and traveling the world 🙂

2. Have you done other styles of Yoga other than Thavma Yoga?

YES. I have tried other yoga studios to see if I liked Thavma the most as my forever home. I went to every other studio in town, and never went back because they did not compare.

3. What made you decide to take your first yoga class?

A FRIEND. I had just gone through a breakup, moved to a new city and needed to find new friendships. The one friend I knew (shoutout to Kristina!) invited me and so I went to hang out with her, not even for the yoga.

4. What made you choose Thavma Premium Hot Yoga Sarasota as a Studio?

I HATE WORKING OUT. I literally hate it. It is so hard for me to get to the gym because I dread it so much. The fact that I found a workout that you can sleep half the time and still sweat more than I ever have in my life had me sold.

5. What was your first Yoga experience at Thavma Premium Hot Yoga like?

LAUGHABLE, BUT NOT HARD. Of course, my friend Kristina invited me to the hardest (Thavma Red) class. I thought that this was what every hot yoga class was like! I easily survived and it was not at ALL bad, even though it was the hardest class… I LOVED the sweat! I felt amazing afterward.

6. What makes you come back?

THE FEELING. The way your body feels mentally and physically after hot yoga is something like never before. The owner of Thavma, Marina, is a goddess. The other instructors too! They educate you and guide you to release all the negative things in your life, all the while, getting rid of the pain in your body from sitting, texting, working too much, stress, etc. It’s amazing.

7. How long have you been practicing?

ONE YEAR. EXACTLY ONE YEAR! AHHH that is so exciting. My first Thavma class was in September 2018. So it is kind of fate this is my “Student of the Month” Month.

8. What changes have you seen since you began the practice?

SO MANY. Mind, body, and soul. I have been in multiple car accidents and hot yoga heals my body. Lower back pain, neck pain, finger pain from texting – all improved. I also never mentally thought clearer or have a happier soul than I do now, it’s crazy!

9. Where have you seen that yoga helps you in your day to day life?

EVERYWHERE. As a 28-year-old, I own my own business managing 10 workers and over 300 customers. I am also working on launching an entirely new company! I swear hot yoga gives me more calm in my career than ever before. I navigate stressful times better and I come up with some of my best new business ideas while meditating in the hot yoga room.

10. What is your favorite pose?

STANDING FOREHEAD TO KNEE. At first, I thought this was just a stretching pose. Now I know how to do it right and love the detoxifying benefits. I feel like I am melting away my double chin fat!!!! haha and ringing out my entire body of toxins.

11. What is your least favorite pose?

BOW. Yeahhhh, like everyone else. This one still sucks. But, I’m working on it? haha

12. What do you like most about Thavma Premium Hot Yoga Sarasota?

THE STYLE (AND THE PEOPLE). I have tried other hot yoga or normal studios and none of them compare. I love the Bikram style but love the way that Thavma does it to great music. Also, the instructors really lead you through a meditative flow and explain why you are doing each position and the benefits of it – which nowhere else does.

13. Tell us anything else interesting that you feel you have gained or learned since starting yoga with us?

FAMILY. SO CLICHE RIGHT???? But it’s true. When I moved here a year ago I had zero friends and now I have an entire yogi family. Going to yoga is the best part of my day. It is not “clicky” either where you feel like you don’t belong. Everyone is truly happy to see each other and get to know more about each other’s lives – from young to old.
