1. Tell us a little about yourself.

I moved to Miami, FL in 2012 from Venezuela where I studied graphic design and advertising. I currently work in a marketing company as a web designer. With this company I started working in Miami and then I was transferred to Sarasota, Fl. This city has offered me the tranquility that I have always been looking for. I’m married and I have a dog that is like my son, his name is Tomy, he’s 4 and the joy of the house.
I like to spend quality time with my family, watch movies, go for a walk to a park, the beach, read and most importantly, do yoga. I discovered yoga a while back and it has become my best way to connect with myself, relax and even change the way I see life. Actually, it was the best thing that could have happened to me.

2. Have you done other styles of Yoga other than Bikram Yoga?

Yes, I have tried Vinyasa and aerial yoga. I decided to try other types of yoga because I wanted to learn even more about everything that this art had to offer me. I practice it to concentrate and relax, to make me feel much better with myself. That is my goal.

3. What made you decide to take your first Bikram Class?

The truth, I had always wanted to practice yoga. Actually I wanted to do it but I never decided. One day I was passing by and something told me to come in and ask. Marina took care of me, showed me the room and I decided to register and start practicing it. I wanted to try a new and beneficial activity for me, so I tried and I loved it. It was the best decision I could have made.

4. What made you choose Thavma Yoga as a Studio?

When I entered the studio a magic trapped me. Marina was very kind to me, showing me the studio and explaining everything very well. The place is very cozy, clean, spacious and you can breathe tranquility and peace.

5. What was your first Bikram yoga experience like?

Was excellent !! .. I loved my first Bikram class. It was my first yoga class ever. I had no idea what I was doing but at the end of the class I felt so good that I knew that this was what I needed and what was good for my body and soul.

6. What makes you come back?

With my first yoga class, I relaxed all the stress I had and came home as a new person. I knew that I wanted to continue feeling this good every day. I want to thank the amazing teachers Thavma has, they have made every moment of yoga practice unique and special. Marina, with her discipline and experience, has taught me to correct myself and make me better and better. Kate, always smiling and funny makes us all have a smile on our face during the deepest poses (I owe you two elastics). Marsha, always happy, makes her class super fun. Denise, with all her tranquility and spirituality, makes the class have a great peace and serenity. All of them give the students a cheerful welcome to the studio, in my opinion, that makes us all want to return day after day to Thavma Yoga.

7. How long have you been practicing?

I have been practicing yoga 10 months and so far, this is the best I can do for me and in my life.

8. What changes have you seen since you began the practice?

I have seen physical and psychological changes in me. I feel much better with myself, I have the inner peace that I did not get before, I think more clearly and I trust 100% in me. I know the capacity of my body and I honor it. I know my soul, I concentrate more, I believe in me and how powerful my mind can be. I control my breathing and I take control of my positive thoughts above all else. Without a doubt, the best gift you can give to your temple (your body) is time, dedication and care. You can achieve all this with yoga, your body will always appreciate it.

9. Where have you seen that it helps you?

The practice of yoga has helped me in the spiritual and physical aspect among many other things. I have achieved more felixibility, concentration, strength, serenity and love for myself, above all things.

10. What is your favorite pose?

Standing Bow Pose – Dandayamana-Dhanurasana. I like this pose because I feel that I develop a great balance with my whole body, I increase the elasticity from my upper thighs until my hands. And after that I feel relaxed and my back feels really good because of the deep stretching. I also, love eagle pose, standing head to knee, triangle pose, bow pose and camel. How could I just choose one? LOL

11. What is your least favorite pose?

Rabbit Pose – Sasangasana. When I realize that I am going to get into this pose, my mind starts to tell me that it is not the pose that I like but, I try to do it as best I can against my thoughts. For me it is a pose where I need the strength of my arms and sometimes I can not have the balance. My goal is not to have this conflict of thoughts when having to enter this pose and with practice and hard work will be able to achieve any pose of yoga, so maybe someday there will not be a least favorite pose in yofa for me. J
